Marshall D. Teach: Blackbeard
Marshall D. Teach, better known as Blackbeard, is the captain of the crew. This unscrupulous traitor did the unthinkable when he stabbed his former captain, Edward Newgate a.k.a. Whitebeard, in the back. By orchestrating the capture of Portgas D. Ace, he triggered the Summit War that shook the entire world!
Teach accomplished the unimaginable by eating two Devil Fruits of immense power, making him an almost unbeatable monster:
- The Yami Yami no Mi, giving him control over darkness.
- The legendary Paramecia Gura Gura no Mi inherited from Whitebeard, allowing him to cause devastating earthquakes.
With his thick beard, booming laugh, and a Jolly Roger featuring three skulls, Blackbeard embodies pure darkness and greed. Now one of the Four Emperors, this power-hungry pirate has one goal: to find the One Piece and claim the title of Pirate King. Jesus Burgess: The Champion
Who could forget the iconic fight between Burgess and Sabo at the Corrida Colosseum? During the big tournament in Dressrosa, Burgess attempted to steal the legendary Mera Mera no Mi from him, but the former wrestling champion of Dressrosa was defeated by Luffy’s brother. Ever since, Blackbeard’s 1st Ship Captain has wanted revenge.
Burgess is a hulking figure whose already massive strength is multiplied by the Riki Riki no Mi. When this giant is enraged, his punches shake the ground! His brutish, merciless fighting style perfectly fits Blackbeard’s philosophy.
With a 20-million-berry bounty, the Champion is a human tank, crushing everything in his path. His wrestling techniques, including grappling moves, make him a formidable close-combat opponent. Burgess is the brute strength of the crew!
Shiryu: “Shiliew of the Rain”
Shiryu commands Blackbeard’s 2nd fleet. Former chief jailer at Impel Down, he was locked up on level 6 for slaughtering other prisoners. Freed by Blackbeard, he joined the crew. A ruthless swordsman, he wields a cursed sword and the invisibility of the Suke Suke no Mi, making him a deadly assassin.
During the Marineford War, Shiryu fought alongside Teach with icy cruelty. Each strike was surgically precise, taking down foes from the shadows, aligning with his “Rain” nickname—striking opponents before they even see him.
Shiryu is one of the crew’s most bloodthirsty members. With zero empathy, he will eliminate anyone in his way. He’s a terrifying adversary, even for the most seasoned fighters!
Van Augur: Supersonic
Who can forget the memorable scene where Augur shoots birds from miles away, witnessed by the stunned Marines at Mock Town? The 3rd Ship Captain is the world’s sharpest marksman, thanks to the incredible Wapu Wapu no Mi!
Capable of instant teleportation, Augur is nearly impossible to locate or catch. His bullets come out of nowhere, felling targets with pinpoint accuracy. A perfect combat style for this unflappable sniper.
With a 64-million-berry bounty, Supersonic is one of Blackbeard’s key assets. His supersonic shots can pierce any defense! Facing such a sniper, you’d better stay in cover if you value your life.
Avalo Pizarro: The Corrupt King
Avalo Pizarro is the 4th Ship Captain of Blackbeard’s crew. This former king of a North Blue kingdom was deposed for his tyranny and locked away on level 6 of Impel Down. Freed by Teach, the deposed monarch quickly joined his ranks!
Pizarro ate the Shima Shima no Mi, allowing him to transform any environment into a floating island under his control—a terrifying advantage for trapping enemies on shifting terrain...
During the Summit War, Pizarro sowed chaos by dropping entire islands on Marines. His ruthlessness is matched only by his lust for power. Although his bounty remains unknown (thought to be at least 100 million berries), this heartless deposed king is one of the worst scourges to side with Blackbeard’s crew.
Laffitte: The Demonic Navigator
Laffitte is Blackbeard’s navigator and the 5th Ship Captain. A former sheriff of the West Blue, he was banished for extreme cruelty. In addition to his hypnosis skills, Laffitte is a brilliant strategist. He’s the one who persuaded the World Government to elevate Blackbeard to Warlord status after the Marineford War, giving the crew more freedom to operate.
It’s suspected Laffitte has an ability that lets him grow wings on his back, but the exact nature of this power remains unknown. He’s the most trusted adviser to Blackbeard. Behind his mysterious mien and enigmatic grin lurks a manipulative mind. With a 42.2-million-berry bounty, he’s among the most dangerous members of the crew, second only to the captain himself.
Catarina Devon: The Crescent Moon Hunter
The fearsome Catarina Devon was once the worst female criminal at Impel Down and joined Blackbeard after being freed. She’s a major asset for the crew, thanks to her fearsome Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Kyubi no Kitsune. This Devil Fruit allows Catarina Devon to transform into a terrifying nine-tailed fox, using illusions to trick her victims before savagely cutting them down—a diabolical power, fitting her nature!
At Marineford, the Huntress displayed unprecedented savagery, tearing through soldiers raw. Since then, she’s spread terror alongside Blackbeard’s crew. A chilling femme fatale—only the bravest would dare face one of the world’s most dangerous pirates.
Sanjuan Wolf: The Giant
Who wouldn’t recall the fear upon seeing the colossal Sanjuan Wolf arrive at Marineford? This titanic giant was already among the most dreaded criminals at Impel Down before joining Blackbeard. Towering to unimaginable heights, Wolf is so enormous he’s mistaken for a drifting island! One step from this colossus can trigger tidal waves that engulf entire ships. His raw strength matches his titanic stature.
During the Summit War, the Giant wreaked havoc by crushing soldiers like mere ants underfoot—truly a walking earthquake! Up against such a monster, even the best fighters have no choice but to flee.
Doc Q: The Sick Doctor
What could be better than a ship’s doctor to look after the health of Blackbeard’s pirates? Unfortunately, Doc Q is anything but a remedy... Nicknamed the sick doctor, his twisted mindset is infamous.
This madman ate the Shiku Shiku no Mi, enabling him to infect and sicken his targets with just a touch. A cruel pastime he never tires of! Doc Q especially delights in handing out poisoned apples—a real sadist.
With a 72-million-berry bounty, he’s among the most wanted members of the crew. His frail appearance and his horse Stronger are deceiving: he’s a dangerous pirate, without a shred of medical ethics!
Kuzan: Aokiji, the Former Admiral
Who better than former Marine Admiral Kuzan to bolster Blackbeard’s ranks? This tall, perpetually drowsy man is, in truth, a monster of power who wields ice!
With the legendary Hie Hie no Mi, Aokiji can freeze miles of ocean and turn any environment into an icy tundra—a chilling power, just like his distant, cold demeanor.
A Marine veteran, he fought Akainu for the position of Fleet Admiral before leaving, disillusioned by its corruption. His reasons for joining Blackbeard remain a mystery... But one thing is certain: with his battle experience and Haki mastery, Kuzan is now one of the most formidable pirates in the world!
The Crew’s Ships
Blackbeard’s Raft
Before the Jaya Arc, the crew sailed on a raft made of four giant wooden logs bound together, featuring cannons on the sides and a tall mast hoisting the crew’s Jolly Roger. The members used oars to propel it.
The ship was destroyed by the Knock Up Stream but later repaired. However, after the Summit War, the crew seized a Marine vessel to travel to Impel Down.
The Saber of Xebec
After the two-year timeskip, the crew acquired a new main ship called the Saber of Xebec, referencing Rocks D. Xebec. Its name and his legacy suggest Blackbeard may know the history of the previous Pirate King and might be trying to represent him in some way.
Not yet revealed in the manga, this has become the formidable flagship of Emperor Blackbeard’s crew.
