Son Goku

Son Goku is the main character of Dragon Ball, who has become iconic among otakus worldwide. Beneath his appearance as a fierce and powerful warrior lies a sensitive individual, always ready to fight to protect his loved ones and the Earth.

Son Goku in Dragon Ball

Mysterious Origins

Although Son Goku was raised on Earth, he is actually a Saiyan—an alien race endowed with superhuman abilities. His real name is Kakarot, and he was born in the year 734 on planet Vegeta. When he was just a baby, his parents sent him to Earth in a space pod to save him from his planet’s destruction at the hands of the tyrant Frieza.

Upon arriving on Earth, he was taken in by the elder Son Gohan, who gave him the name Goku. Son Gohan also became his sensei, teaching him martial arts and combat in general. After an accident, Goku lost his memory and forgot his Saiyan origins.

A Warrior with a Big Heart

Despite his tough-guy appearance, Goku is actually naïve, loyal, and kindhearted. He loves to fight more than anything and regularly enters the legendary Tenkaichi Budokai (World Martial Arts Tournament). Behind his thirst for battle is a hero willing to do anything to protect those he cares about, particularly his wife Chi-Chi and his two sons Gohan and Goten (introduced later in the series).

Legendary Transformations

Throughout his adventures, Goku has faced powerful enemies such as Piccolo, the Saiyans, Frieza, Cell, and Buu. To defeat them, he developed legendary combat techniques like the Kamehameha. Above all, he learned to transform into a Super Saiyan, a state of superhuman power that makes him one of the universe’s most formidable warriors. There are multiple Super Saiyan forms that Son Goku masters over time while searching for the Dragon Balls:

  • Super Saiyan: The basic transformation, where the Saiyan’s hair turns blond and his aura shines.

Bulma

Bulma is one of the few women to be a main character in Dragon Ball. A genius scientist and fearless adventurer, she is not afraid to face the most powerful beings in the galaxy. Thanks to her extraordinary intelligence, she is often the brains behind Son Goku’s plans and those of his friends.

Bulma in Dragon Ball

A Genius Inventor

The daughter of the famous scientist Dr. Brief, Bulma showed a natural talent for technology and invention from a young age. She created the famous capsules that store large objects in small spaces. She also has a Dragon Radar, making her indispensable to Son Goku’s team for locating the Dragon Balls. Throughout the adventure, Bulma invents many things, such as Trunks’ time machine, for example.

A Fiery Temperament

Despite her appearance as a delicate young girl, Bulma has a strong personality. She does not hesitate to verbally confront Goku or scold him when he does something foolish. Even in the face of super-powerful beings like Beerus, the God of Destruction, Bulma does not back down and even dares to slap him!

A Loving Mother

As the story progresses, Bulma falls in love with Vegeta and becomes his wife. Together, they have two children, Trunks and Bra. This marriage, though surprising, shows that behind her image as a strong and independent woman, Bulma is also a loving and dedicated mother.

Vegeta

Vegeta is one of the most significant characters in the Dragon Ball universe. Initially presented as an antagonist, this Saiyan prince gradually evolves into a Son Goku ally.

A Proud and Arrogant Saiyan Prince

Born of the Saiyan race, Vegeta is the prince of this legendary line of warriors. After his planet was destroyed by Frieza, he becomes Goku’s sworn enemy, eager to assert his superiority.

From Antagonist to Ally

Despite his cold demeanor and desire to surpass Goku, Vegeta gradually changes over the course of the story. Initially just an antagonist, he eventually becomes Goku’s rival and then his ally. This evolution makes Vegeta one of the manga’s most fascinating characters. And despite his off-putting side, he seems completely captivated by Bulma, his wife. He can unleash previously unimaginable power to protect the one he loves.

An Elite Fighter Obsessed with Battle

Vegeta is one of the most powerful fighters in Dragon Ball. Mastering legendary techniques like the Big Bang Attack, he remains determined to outdo Son Goku. This obsession with fighting, combined with his Saiyan pride, makes him a fearsome opponent but above all, a remarkable ally in the defense of Earth.

Krillin

Krillin is one of the most iconic characters in Dragon Ball. He first appears as a rival to young Goku, but quickly becomes his best friend. Short in stature but with a big heart, Krillin is known for his shaved head and the six dots on his forehead, a legacy of his monk training.

Krillin in Dragon Ball

An Outstanding Fighter

Despite being physically less imposing than some of the other warriors, Krillin is an excellent fighter. He masters techniques such as the Kienzan (Destructo Disc) and the Kamehameha, which he wields with surgical precision. His courage and tenacity enable him to win many crucial battles against formidable foes.

A Faithful and Brave Friend

Krillin is not only a formidable fighter; he’s also an excellent friend you can trust. With unmatched loyalty, he makes many decisions in support of his friendship with Goku. Whether throwing himself into the fray to help his friends or providing moral support, Krillin is the pillar his allies can always rely on.

A Comedic Character

Beyond his role as a fighter, Dragon Ball fans appreciate Krillin for his comedic contributions to the series. We all remember his exaggerated reactions when faced with embarrassing situations—such as dealing with female characters or extremely powerful enemies. These light-hearted moments reduce tension during more intense arcs and showcase another side of his personality.

Yamcha

When Yamcha is first introduced in Dragon Ball, he is a desert bandit who fears women and attacks travelers to survive. However, after encountering Goku and Bulma, he drastically changes his path, giving up his life as a bandit to become a warrior affiliated with the Z Fighters. Recognizable by his long black hair and facial scar, Yamcha shows that repentance and transformation are possible.

Yamcha in Dragon Ball

From Bandit to Warrior

Yamcha’s evolution from bandit to respected fighter is marked by his participation in multiple World Martial Arts Tournaments and his battles against forces that threaten Earth. Although not the strongest warrior, his courage and resolve to better himself stand out. He works tirelessly to sharpen his martial arts skills and prove his worth within the group.

A Real Ladies’ Man

What most characterizes Yamcha is his love for women. He’s known for his numerous romantic adventures, especially in his youth. While he was shy when he was younger, he later becomes more self-assured and manages to attract attention with his charm. He enters a serious relationship with Bulma, though it doesn’t last, due to many arguments.

A Faithful Ally Despite His Weaknesses

Although he is not the most powerful warrior, and has experienced many defeats, Yamcha remains a dependable ally to Goku and the others. His loyalty and constant support, even in the most dangerous situations, show that a true hero is not defined solely by strength, but also by heart.

Piccolo

Piccolo is the famous Dragon Ball character with green skin, pointed ears, and a piercing gaze. Originating from the Namekian warrior race, Piccolo initially appears as the reincarnation of King Piccolo, marking his entrance with sinister intentions and formidable power.

Piccolo in Dragon Ball

Mysterious Origins

Piccolo was born from the final will of King Piccolo, his predecessor, an evil entity that sought to dominate the Earth. After King Piccolo’s death, Piccolo emerges with his memories and a quest for vengeance. This heavy inheritance of anger and pain influences his initial behavior, but his outlook gradually changes over time.

From Enemy to Ally

Piccolo is first portrayed as Goku’s enemy and a threat to the Earth. Yet, against all odds, when he faces greater dangers, he decides to side with Goku and his friends. His shift from enemy to ally truly takes shape when he trains with Gohan, Goku’s son, and fights alongside the Z Fighters against common foes.

A Mentor

Piccolo becomes a crucial mentor for Gohan, guiding him not only in combat techniques but also imparting important life lessons. Their relationship goes beyond that of a mere teacher-student dynamic, evolving into something close to family. By taking Gohan under his wing, Piccolo shows his sense of sacrifice, discipline, and ability to grow beyond his past self.

Frieza

Frieza is one of the main antagonists in Dragon Ball. Known for his cruelty and lust for power, he’s feared for his ruthlessness and devastating strength. As the leader of the galactic empire that bears his name, he takes a personal role in destroying planets and enslaving civilizations.
